Five Ways for Parents and Kids to Be Active This Spring
As Earth Day draws near and the weather turns to sunshine and milder temperatures, keep in mind that a healthy lifestyle includes regular physical activity. At least 60 minutes a day is best, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
As a parent or guardian, you have a huge effect on how your child feels and behaves regarding physical activity. Here are five ways to start:
Set a good example by engaging in regular physical activity yourself.
Take family walks or play active games together to make physical activity part of your family’s daily routine.
Offer your kids toys and sports equipment that encourage physical activity and make it fun.
Make good use of places where they can be active, including parks, community athletic fields, or basketball courts.
Decrease your own screen time and encourage your child to do the same. Instead, encourage fun activities such as walking, playing chase and hide and seek, or riding bikes.
