Saturday Night Lights (SNL) is a program that PAL has been hosting for over 10 years with the Manhattan District Attorney's office. This year, with help and funding from the NYPD, PAL was able to expand the reach to centers in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan and Queens.
Young people can come to centers and play basketball safely with their friends. There are also programs for youth like career readiness that often take place during evening. NYPD officers often show up to spend time with our youth and talk with them. No matter what happens, teens know that PAL offers them a safe place to be on a Saturday evening in NYC.
In December, during SNL, centers have been hosting friendly scrimmages between PAL Edward Byrne Center (EBC) in Queens (named after the fallen NYPD officer) and PAL friends from Brooklyn NIA. The two teams played a double header which resulted in splitting wins. EBC took the first game 49-44 and Brooklyn NIA took the second game 48-46. Thank you to Brooklyn NIA for traveling and putting forth a great effort.
Saturday Night Lights also has a middle school session for younger New Yorkers in the Bronx! Success Academy (a new site for PAL SNL) & SNL New South Bronx (Middle School) battled in two close scrimmages during December. New South Bronx took the first game 21-16. SNL Success Academy took the second game 15-14 on a last second buzzer beater.
