New York City students in grades 9-12 are invited to enter the PAL/NYPD “Police Commissioner for a Day” essay contest.

  • Topic: “As Police Commissioner for a Day, how would you work to prevent youth from joining gangs and support those trying to leave them?”

  • Deadline: TBA (Essays must be submitted via PDF or Word using this form.)

  • Awards Ceremony: May 27th - The “Police Commissioner for a Day” winner will meet with Commissioner Tisch, and all winners will spend a day with top NYPD officials.

  • Top Winner: $500, a personalized plaque, and a $250 donation to their school.

  • Additional leadership titles awarded, including: Deputy Commissioner, Bureau Chief, Patrol Borough Commander, Precinct Commander, and many more.
